My husband and I decided to visit Goa for a getaway, only to find ourselves ensnared in a scheme orchestrated by Liam Lifestyle Holidays. Here’s how it unfolded:
While in Goa, we were approached by one of their agents who mentioned their company’s anniversary celebration and offered us coupons. When my husband opened his coupon, he received a message saying “better luck next time,” but my coupon declared me a star winner. Intrigued, we were told that to claim our prize, we needed to visit their hotel.
Upon arrival at the hotel, another individual took down our personal information, including our names, addresses, and details about the credit and debit cards we used. Subsequently, we were ushered into a presentation where they attempted to persuade us by claiming they provided 4*/5* hotels at half the usual rates. However, their pitch didn’t convince us.
To entice us further, they instructed us to initiate a mere 1 Rs transaction, assuring us that we could take our time deciding whether to proceed or cancel. They proposed a 75,000 Rs loan with a 48-month EMI plan, requiring monthly payments of 1,506 Rs.
The situation took a sinister turn when an automated call and message came through for loan approval, without our consent. To our dismay, we discovered that 75,000 Rs had been transferred to Liam Lifestyle Holidays without any documentation or notification to us. Despite their promise of a follow-up call within 48 hours for loan confirmation, we received no such communication.
We sought assistance from the police, presenting our side of the story and the proof of our 1 Rs transaction. However, the authorities remained skeptical about the 75,000 Rs transfer to Liam Lifestyle Holidays, creating a frustrating deadlock.
In a bizarre twist, the company assured us they would refund the money. A representative named Sydney Desouza, accompanied by a bodyguard, instructed us to visit our ICICI branch and have our manager speak with him for loan cancellation. I traveled to Bangalore to facilitate this process, but Liam Lifestyle Holidays refused to cooperate, stating that they had only received 1 Rs and not 75,000 Rs.
In our pursuit of justice, we attempted to file a Zero FIR with the local police, but even they were hesitant to accept our complaint. It became evident that we had fallen victim to a substantial scam involving 75,000 Rs.
